King Air Owners See Savings with G1000® Retrofit Platinum Package

Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today the King Air Platinum Package for King Air C90, 200 and B200 owners who place an order for the retrofit G1000 integrated flight deck by November 30, 2008. The Platinum Package gives a substantial savings on the most popular G1000 options: Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT), Garmin Chartview™ that displays Jeppesen charts, and GRC/GRT XM radio remote control. The Platinum Package was announced at the National Business Aviation Association Convention in Orlando, Florida, October 6-8, 2008.

Pilots who look at the features of the G1000 retrofit realize it’s a tremendous bang-for-the buck, not to mention a huge leap forward in terms of safety of flight and situational awareness.”

The King Air G1000 retrofit flight deck is the industry’s first G1000 retrofit avionics package. It integrates all primary flight, navigation, communication, terrain, traffic, weather and engine instrumentation system (EIS) on a large 15-inch multi-function display (MFD) and two 10.4-inch primary flight displays (PFD). The G1000 retrofit system includes Garmin’s GFC™ 700 three axis, fully digital, dual channel, fail passive automatic flight control system (AFCS). The GFC 700 has features not typically found in this class of aircraft like coupled wide area augmentation system (WAAS) approaches, coupled vertical navigation and flight level change (FLC).

The King Air Platinum Package’s most popular feature, SVT, presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacles and traffic on the G1000’s PFD so that the avionics panel replicates what pilots would see outside the cockpit on a clear day. Land, water and sky are clearly differentiated with shading and textures that are similar to the topographical colors found on the MFD moving map. SVT works seamlessly to alert pilots of potential ground hazards by displaying terrain and obstacles which pose a threat to the aircraft with appropriate TAWS alert coloring, as well as voice alerts. SVT also includes pathways (or Highway-In-The-Sky) that are depicted as 3D “flying rectangles” and help pilots stay on course when flying en route legs, VNAV legs, GPS/WAAS vertical approach procedures, ILS approach procedures, and arrival and departure procedures. SVT on the King Air 200 will be available immediately upon STC, and an amendment to the King Air C90 STC will follow to provide SVT capability.

Garmin Chartview helps simplify operations, enhances situational awareness and increases safety during flight. With Chartview, the aircraft’s position is overlaid on an electronic version of Jeppesen’s charts and airport diagrams. Customers ordering the Platinum Package will receive a one-year free subscription to Chartview.

The third feature of the Platinum Package is the GRC/GRT XM radio remote control, which manages the GDL 69A’s XM entertainment features like volume, channel selection by channel, and channel selection by category. The bi-directional remote controls the audio from anywhere in the cabin, and also displays the XM radio information directly on the remote, such as the song that is currently playing. XM Satellite Radio provides 170-plus channels of music, news, talk, sports and information.

The King Air Platinum Package is available for $9,995 for King Air C90, 200 and B200 owners who place an order for the retrofit G1000 integrated flight deck by November 30, 2008. The Platinum Package is a substantial savings over the usual $28,000 retail price for these three options.

Garmin was awarded supplemental type certification (STC) for the G1000 flight deck in the King Air C90A/GT in November 2007, and expects to receive the STC for the King Air 200 and B200 in early 2009.
